#IndiaGetsReading

India Gets Reading 8.0:

My Words, My Story | मेरे शब्द, मेरी कहानी

India Gets Reading - Room to Read India’s annual flagship annual campaign that promotes and celebrates children’s connection with reading turns seven this year. The campaign brings together children, families, schools, and communities to highlight the joy, purpose and pride that reading brings into children’s lives.

In 2026, our Annual Reading Campaign theme, ‘My Words, My Story’, further underscores the importance of access to quality literature in shaping children’s agency, dignity and lifelong engagement with reading. When children read stories in languages familiar to their homes and communities, books become mirrors of their own experiences and windows into new worlds. The campaign promotes joyful reading, strengthening comprehension and language development and building sustained demand for diverse, high-quality children's literature in Indian languages.

Aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 and NIPUN Bharat Mission, the campaign encourages children to read together, share their stories and grow as expressive, confident individuals. It also reinforces our collective responsibility to nurture reading environments that are inclusive, participatory and meaningful.

Last year, the campaign reached over 44 lakh participants. This year, we aim to go further and reach even more children, especially those still unreached.
