India Gets Reading 8.0 India Gets Reading is Room to Read India’s annual national reading campaign that brings together children, families, teachers, schools, libraries, communities and reading champions to celebrate the joy and power of reading. In 2026, India Gets Reading enters its eighth edition, inviting us to look beyond reading fluency and accuracy; to the ideas, questions, connections, and conversations that make reading truly meaningful. My Words, My Story | मेरे शब्द, मेरी कहानी, puts children at the heart of the reading experience. Because reading is not just about saying words correctly—it is about thinking, imagining, asking questions, making connections and sharing what you think. Every child brings their own language, identity, experiences and way of seeing the world to a story. Every language has a place in the story. When children find themselves reflected in books and have the freedom to respond in the language they are most comfortable with; stories become more meaningful and reading becomes a source of joy, confidence and connection. We are celebrating the spaces and opportunities that allow children to reflect, interpret, participate and express themselves; in their own words and in the languages they are most comfortable with. Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and NIPUN Bharat Mission, India Gets Reading 8.0 invites all of us to create more spaces where children can read, think, express and be heard.
